Tips on How to Avoid Rear-End Collisions
Rear-end collisions do more than damaging the car. They also cause whiplash that leaves the bones, muscles, and joints of the shoulders, spine, and neck injured. After reading some excellent tips from a blogger over at Glass Dawg, I couldn’t help but share some insight. To reduce the risk of rear-end collisions, follow these tips.
Allow Yourself Enough Room
When driving, maintain a distance that can fit one or two vehicles between you and the car ahead. Increase this distance significantly when driving on a major highway. This allows you enough room and time to react and stop your car in case of an emergency or accident.
Check the Mirrors
Check the rear-view mirrors more often to see if the motorist behind you is too close. If you notice this, slow down to allow them to pass. You definitely don’t want to be rear-ended by an impatient driver that is tail-gating you.
Watch Far Ahead on the Road
Avoid looking at the rare of the car in front of you only. Look far away occasionally to find out what is happening ahead of you on the road. This will enable you to notice traffic slowdowns or jams to avoid slamming on the brakes.
Slow Gradually
Avoid rushing towards the red light or stop sign only to grind to a halt. This increases collision risk while damaging the tires and brakes of your car. Therefore, slowdown and speed up gradually to allow the person driving behind you enough time to act accordingly.
Ensure that Brake Lights are in Proper Condition
A faulty brake light is a serious hazard. Drivers behind you depend on the brake lights of your car to know when you slow down. Therefore, make sure that the brake lights of your vehicle are in proper working condition all the time.
Avoid Distraction
Using your cell phone, talking to passengers, and fiddling with the car radio are some of the things that can distract you while driving. Avoid them and stay focused with eyes on the road.
Follow these tips to avoid rear-end collisions. If your vehicle has been damaged after rear-end collision, take it for repair at a reputable collision repair center.
